Date: 11/10/2013

An automatic software update to our firewall, failed to install correctly this morning. This in turn corrupted some system files. This then stopped a number of websites working correctly with php related software. We had tried to do a partial system re-install, which did not solve the problem. We were then forced to re-install the operating system and re-install the last system backups from today. Then at 14:16 the hard disk / controller failed, so we had to replace these and re-install the hardware.

The server is now working correctly. We would like to apologies for any Inconvenience caused and Thank you your patience.

We apologies for any inconvenience caused, by these server upgrades. These will take place in January 2013 and there will be a downtime of 3 – 4 hours while the data from the old servers are migrated to the new servers. These upgrades will take place overnight to minimise the effects on customer accounts and there will be no loss of emails, these will be staked while the upgrades take place. This will allow us to expand our other hosting businesses.

We are planning to transfer all customer accounts in three (3) batches

Batch 1 (Non-database websites)
Batch 2 (Database driven websites)
Batch 3 (eCommerce Websites)

We will inform all customers when we planned to do the server upgrades in January 2013.

On the 8th December 2012, an automatic upgrade to our spam filters had caused for all emails to be rejected by any sender. Causing no emails to be allowed through, we have be working through the weekend to fix this problem. We have now contacted the software designers and they are working very hard to get a fix for this bug. They are estimating that a fix will be with us by the 12th December 2012.

In the mean time we have disabled the spam filter, so there will be an increase in spam in the next few days.

Dear Valued Customer,

We would like announce that we have now upgraded our servers and have changed our network from IPv4 to IPv6.

Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), sometimes called the "next generation" IP protocol (IPng), is designed by the IETF to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 ("IPv4"), which is now more than twenty years old. Most of today's network uses IPv4 and it is beginning to have problems, for example, the growing shortage of IPv4 addresses.

IPv6 fixes many shortages in IPv4, including the limited number of available IPv4 addresses. It also adds many improvements to IPv4 in areas. The key benefits of introducing IPv6 are:

•	340 undecillion IP addresses for the whole world network devices
•	Plug and Play configuration with or without DHCP
•	Better network bandwidth efficiency using multicast and any cast without broadcast
•	Better QOS support for all types of applications
•	Native information security framework for both data and control packets
•	IPv6 offers a higher level of built-in security, and it has been specifically designed with mobile devices in mind.
•	Enhanced mobility with fast handover, better route optimization and hierarchical mobility

Difference Between IPv4 and IPv6

IPv4

•	Source and destination addresses are 32 bits (4 bytes) in length.
•	IPSec support is optional.
•	IPv4 header does not identify packet flow for QoS handling by routers.
•	Both routers and the sending host fragment packets.
•	Header includes a checksum.
•	Header includes options.
•	Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) uses broadcast ARP Request frames to resolve an IP address to a link layer address.
•	Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) manages membership in local subnet groups.
•	ICMP Router Discovery is used to determine the IPv4 address of the best default gateway, and it is optional.
•	Broadcast addresses are used to send traffic to all nodes on a subnet.
•	Must be configured either manually or through DHCP.
•	Uses host address (A) resource records in Domain Name System (DNS) to map host names to IPv4 addresses.
•	Uses pointer (PTR) resource records in the IN-ADDR.ARPA DNS domain to map IPv4 addresses to host names.
•	Must support a 576-byte packet size (possibly fragmented).

IPv6

•	Source and destination addresses are 128 bits (16 bytes) in length.
•	IPSec support is required.

•	Uses pointer (PTR) resource records in the IN-ADDR.ARPA DNS domain to map IPv4 addresses to host names.
At approximately 16:48 GMT the Stratford, London facility lost mains power from the power grid.

The time-line of events is as follows:

16:48 - Power to site lost - running on UPS.
17:15 - UPS systems depleted, generators failed to start
17:30 - Generators failovers failed to function despite multiple attempts - The power engineers were dispatched.18:32 - The power engineers arrived on site.
18:54 - The power engineer estimates 30-45 minutes to return power to site.
19:16 - The power was returned to site and the process of booting up each rack commenced.
19:35 - All racks powered up and brought on-line.
The last twenty-four hours have seen numerous power grid blips but the system as designed have taken the load with the UPS battery backup and generators keeping the facility live, ensuring an un-interrupted service.
Yesterday however, at 16:48 a failure in the control boards prevented the generators from powering the facility once the power from the grid failed, a manual bypass was installed to get the facility on-line.
